The Art of War
Checking out Your Opponent
This is the first step in declaring war on a country - you want to check that you can actually do it. This means seeing if they are at war with any other country, seeing how wealthy and how strong their military is, and seeing who their allies are (if they have any), and even if they are played - this is a step we seriously recommend, after all, no one wants to lose a war. You can find all countries on the Country Index, and all current wars in the Battlefield board; some alliances will be in the form of treaties.
Declaring War
After you have decided who you are declaring war on, go to the Declarations of War board, and using this template post a new topic. When filling in the Declaration of War form, please remember to fill in all of the fields correctly - if it isn't filled in correctly it could cause serious problems for the staff trying to organise your war, and could lead to your declaration of war being rejected. Remember, you declare war on a country and not a province.
Acceptance
Once you have posting your declaration and it's all in order, a staff member will deduct the cost of the declaration form your country's Extra Wealth. The costs are usually quite cheap, however, extra costs could come along during the war.
Invasion Plans
After your war has been accepted, you will need to PM the staff member who accepted your war (or another staff member if the war has been taken over) using the Invasion Template saying which province you wish to take, how many troops you will be using, and a broad overview of your plan to take the country. This is order for the staff to have a rough idea of what objectives to set you and how to make organise the war.
War
Once you have sent your troops to the staff member, the staff member will set up your war in the Battlefield board. You have to go through the war one objective at the time - you will not be able to progress through the war - or indeed the country - until you have completed the objective.
The last objective is usually to take the capital of the province, however, there are geographical limitations to this so it doesn't always apply.
Played/Unplayed
Remember, when you declare war on a country they can invade you too, so if the war goes badly for you, you might have to start acting in defence instead of attack. Indeed, if a country is unplayed the staff member will act in the best interests of a country and try to defend it in whatever means he or she sees fit.
Played countries will be asked to do objectives in their defence as well - and they can do whatever they see fit to defend their territories. With player versus player wars you will be asked to PM objectives to the war mod and not post them. This is to ensure fairness and your strategies are secret.
Successful Invasion and Surrendering
Success of a war depends on a number of things: army size; army quality; navy size; military tactics; and geography of a country. All of these will be taken into account when a staff member decides if you've completed an objective or not. Tactics are one of the main things - detailed posts with sophisticated tactics will ensure a victory even if your enemy is superior.
Sometimes, if the people of the province you are invading are ethnically related, or feel it is in their best interests to surrender to you, they will - however, this doesn't happen that often. You can, though, try to force a surrender by holding the government up at gunpoint.
Once you have successfully taken a whole province, or it has surrendered, its wealth will be added to yours and the province will be officially yours on the map. If this is the last/only province of a country, you now own the country and its troops and extra wealth will be added to yours as well.
