Your Reason: In this time of turmoil, entire countries can be wiped from the face of the map. For instance, when looking at the area in which our two Republics reside just six years ago one would almost disbelieve what has come about. In an attempt to prevent the fleetingness of nation with this second coalition against France and her client states, I believe that the two republics would better stand the test of time together than apart.
Furthermore, a unified nation would be able to form a trade route in between the two seas surrounding Italy - the Adriatic and the Ligurian. This would benefit all the neighboring nations to these seas - for instance trade between Austria and Spain would be benefited were they to be transported by land through the Italian peninsula instead of around it.
Economically, the people under a single rule would prosper not singly through the joint treasuries and incomes, which would allow for trade companies and other such advances logistically impossible for either alone, but also through their strategic position for trade as outlined above.
Militaristically, a single nation would be able to perform far greater acts of defense or offense than a nation alone, and also expansion thereof would be easier, having a larger pool of eligible young males to recruit in both states.
However this need not come about through violence. Through the happy account of both states being republics, the simplest way for the two to become one would be to merge the respective senates together and afterwards hold an election for representative after a short time for acclimatisation. Therefore, the first action performed will be peaceful missives to the Doge of Liguria, Girolamo Luigi Francesco Durazzo, requesting a merged state and senate.
*EDIT:* Changed troop numbers etc. to account for increases.
