-- Her Majesty, Caroline's recent alliances have not been entirely political as her friends, her councilors, and her people had suspected.

-- The Queen, our Mistress has finally taken a husband, in the form of the honourable Statesman, Consul Julian Van der Kemp of the Batavian Republic.

-- Details of the ceremony shall be posted within our reformations shortly.

-- This treaty aims to deal with the technicalities of political union through marriage.

-- The respective realms of Consul Julian Van der Kemp and Our Majesty, Caroline I are to be joined together to form the Maltese Empire.

-- This is due to the newly weds choosing to seat their new Government on the Island of Malta, making that the centre of their new state.

-- The couple are to reside in the city of Valetta. Further details of the structuring of the new state shall be included within our reformations at a later date.

-- This is total state union, and the terms follow below:

The current heads of state, Consul Julian Van der Kemp and Empress Caroline I are to be restyled. Their new titles follow beneath:

The amalgamated army of the two states shall be divided into three constituent parts, notably the:

- HIS MAJESTY'S IMPERIAL GUARD

- HER MAJESTY'S IMPERIAL GUARD

- THE STATE'S IMPERIAL GUARD

The numbers of these three factions shall be stated in Reformations.

OOC: How is it possible to have a state of union through Marriage when Consul Julian is not a heridatary Monarch???

OOC: There'll be serious loss of provincial loyalties because of this, as well as patriotism (particularly in the Batavian Republic).

OOC : All will make sense after the political reforms. The Dutch seem to want a king, anyway =P Each of the 7 provinces of the Netherlands will be given more political independance than they have at the moment (seeing as the National Assembly essentially does whatever I, the non-elected consul, tell them to do). Now, each state of the Netherlands will be run by an independant legislative body, as part of a confederation known as the Maltese Empire.

The Consul will, in the interrim, hold the same basic position as the Stadtholder did in the United Republic of the Netherlands - the Constitution of the Netherlands will detail the new political system in those provinces in full.
