A letter is drafted for the Duke of Württemberg and sent immediately from Vienna to Stuttgart:
"Your Grace,
His Imperial and Royal Majesty Emperor Francis I and II of the Austrian and Holy Roman Empires requests that you may spare a few moments of your time in order to listen to the request of the Austrians to help solve this situation peacefully.
Your Grace will already be aware that war and turmoil already lie on our doorstep, we are sure that he is aware that The French Republic already occupy our friends and kinsmen to the west in The Rhineland, and are looking towards our friends in the north, in Hesse, to conquer next. There is also the client state of The Helvetic Republic to the south of Württemberg, and the French already have great power in the Saxon court.
As you can see, our enemies are closing in around us and it is at this time that those of who remain loyal to the Holy Roman Empire need to stand together who else will fall. It is the Holy Roman Emperor's duty to defend the Holy Roman Empire against all evil, and so far he has diligently done this by placing Austrian troops alongside of Württembergers in the defence of the Württemberg and the East Bank of the Rhine to be a bastion of strength and righteousness against the unholiness which flows from the French Republic.
This is just the most recent example of how Austrians and Württembergers can work together, and is a testament to how German-speaking people can stand together in the face of strong opposition. This is also proof of the Archduke of Austria's commitment to the Duchy of Württemberg and to the protection of Christendom and Monarchy.
However, the Emperor's generosity in defending the Duchy Württemberg can only last so long, and it is for this reason that we believe that the safest option for the people of the Duchy of Württemberg is to become a part of the Austrian Empire as we believe it is a stronger opponent to the threat of republicanism than any other in Europe. Furthermore, the Holy Roman Emperor has declared that the Austrian Empire should be considered the successor state of the Holy Roman Empire should it fall, and so if the Holy Roman Empire falls, the best chance German leaders have of retaining their current ways of life is with the Austrian Empire.
The Holy Roman Emperor was chosen by the most important noble and religious men in Germany to lead and defend the most powerful Empire in Europe: and it is esteemed opinion that the best option for the future of the Empire is for Württemberg to join with the Austrian Empire, and it is for this, and the reasons above, that we hope Your Grace will think over everything that has been said here.
We hope Your Grace, The Duke of Württemberg gives consideration to everything the Emperor has said for the future of our nations. If Your Grace wishes to negotiate the terms - of any other terms the Duke may have - the Emperor would be very keen to hear.
Awaiting your response with trepidation and sincerity,
Signed: His Imperial and Royal Majesty Francis I and II of the Austrian and the Holy Roman Empires"

The Duke of Württemberg swiftly responds with this very brief letter: My dear Holy Roman Emperor, your letter was very compelling and I took it to my court and debated it for many minutes. The result of the debate was thus:- We wish to know the Austrian terms of surrender
- How much Sovereignty would myself, the Duke, keep over Württemberg?
- Any other things you wish to discuss
Awaiting your reply with sincerity,
Signed: Duke of Württemberg

With a light heart, a messenger swiftly returns from Vienna,
"Your Grace,
We are very glad to hear that this was debated for a long while, and indeed that there is positivity and sincerity in the Duke's letter - virtues which have been sourly missed in recent times due to evil events in the world.
With regards to the terms and sovereignty, we would suggest the following: that the Duke of Württemberg - and his heirs - continue to rule over the internal affairs of Württemberg; however, the Emperor would take control of foreign and defence affairs of Württemberg, but the Württembergers would retain their existing uniforms and become a separate division within the Austrian army. Also, if the Duke feels he needs to be financially compensated for his loss of sovereignty, this can also be arranged, but this is up to the Duke's discretion.
Furthermore, the Emperor hopes that he and the Duke will be able to become close friends, and, indeed, that the Duke will go to the Austrian court to be an advisor on the matters of the state and the defence of his two empires - it is hoped that the Duke will have great influence in the court and be able to share his knowledge and experience with the Emperor.
We hope that these terms are agreeable to Your Grace and that we will be able to conclude this situation as swiftly as possible for the benefit of both our peoples.
Looking forward to your reply in anxiety, friendship and hope,
Signed: His Imperial and Royal Majesty Emperor Francis I and II of the Austrian and the Holy Roman Empires "

The Duke arrives in person to the court of the Austrian Empire: Addressing the court: " My good sires, this evil you speak of on our doorstep could only be described as hell on earth for our great nation. I do implore you to stop the Franco-menace from expanding any further into our brothers in the Holy Roman Empire. As such, I propose the following terms:- Number One: The Duchy is to be compensated by way of 15,000 Livres
- Number Two: The Württemberger Army will fight alongside the Austrians in a separate Regiment
- Number Three: The Income and Treasury of the Duchy of Württemberg will be transferred into that of the Austrian Empire's
- Number Four: The Duchy to remain semi-autonomous and for the Duchy to remain in power over Württemberg
- Number Five: The promise from the Austrian Empire that justice will be achieved for our brothers in the HRE
These are my terms"

The Emperor stands up and loudly proclaims,
"My friend, how could we refuse such generous terms?! This shall be the start of a long friendship between us!"
The Emperor shakes the Duke's hand, and they exit the room talking and laughing to the applause of the rest of the court.
