OOC: I don't understand. So does this mean my speech was ineffective? If so, I said how I was going to start the assault. I thought that was in my invasion template. Don't I need a new more specific objective in the actual war?
Sorry if I'm being a bit dense.
(Also, it's Naples matey, not Sicily. Caz would castrate you.)

No, I just would prefer to start with an objective, not a result.
Literally, just copy and paste the speech if you want.

Okay... ________
Queen Caroline the Beautiful stands on a bejeweled podium and declares after the sound of trumpets:
"People of Janina! Join us, do not fight! As a province of the beautiful Kingdom of Naples you can and shall prosper! You shall all be my people in equality from each other, and you shall join the Sicilians, the Neapolitans, the Cretians in having the most beautiful Queen the world shall see! I promise you a middle ground, Republican equality with the shaping of a Kingdom to prevent foreign aggression. With me, you shall be great! Let us fight the bigger powers of Europe by forming a serene and respectable Empire not to be taken for granted!
People of Janina, for the sake of beauty, I implore you to turn silver on the map! "
-- And thus the Queen exits, to dine on some grouse she shot earlier with her friend, the Duke of Monmouth; whom she is growing to adore as a result of his most shapely calves.

The reply, only another week after that, is as follows: My Dear Queen
Your letter interests me, however there are some certain matters we wish to see perfectly clearly:
- What exactly are the Neapolitian Terms of Surrender?
- What exactly will you do with the Kingdom if we accept your offer?
- What will happen to us, of the court, if we accept your offer?
- Anything else you feel is of note.
We await your reply.Signed: The Court of JaninaEdit: Just corrected your coding error. -Grok

-- Queen Caroline picked up her finest peacock quill, and scribed this in her own fair hand: __________________________ From the desk of Caroline, Queen of Naples, Sicily & Crete My dear Janinans,
My offer is a simple one. Your terms of surrender are simply to lay down your weapons. Upon doing this, your army shall become part of my own, primarily as a defense force for your beautiful little nation. This will also result in a Unification Festival, paid for by my court, to celebrate the coming together of Naples, and Janina. The unification shall become a national holiday.
Upon our official unification, a new court shall be formed, in the city of Naples. We shall introduce reform to create a new nation, based on the model of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, only our nation shall be henceforth known as:
The United Queendom of Naples, Sicily, Janina and Crete. This new nation shall be represented by a senate, chaired by myself where there shall be representatives from each constituent province. The entire nation shall be subjected to elections and appointments, and this shall also apply to your Court, however I would expect current members to stand in the new system. You would be no doubt given some degree of autonomy given that the changes shall be happening all over my realm.
As part of a pioneering new nation, we feel Janina shall prosper. We have exciting times ahead, and we wish to start these with the peaceful unification with Janina!
Yours, most humbly,
Caroline, Queen Caroline, reputed the most beautiful, wise, witty and humane woman the world over, twice.

Verdict: Neapolitian Victory
--------------
Troop losses:
Neapolitian troops: Light Infantry: 0 Heavy Infantry: 0 Cavalry: 0 Cannon: 0
Janinan Troops: Light Infantry: 15 000 Heavy Infantry: 5 000 Cavalry: 2 500 Cannon: 10
Remaining Troops:
Neapolitian troops: Light Infantry: 80 000 Heavy Infantry: 25 000 Cavalry: 5 000 Cannon: 100 Quality: Mediocre
Janinan Troops: Light Infantry: 40 000 Heavy Infantry: 20 000 Cavalry: 5 000 Cannon: 40 Quality: Mediocre
Loyal (to Naples) Janinan Troops: Light Infantry: 15 000 Heavy Infantry: 5 000 Cavalry: 2 500 Cannon: 10 Quality: Mediocre
------------
Result:
The Janinan court and Sultan are somewhat won over by your offer, however a small majority believe that they were better ruled by themselves, and attempt to seize power. As a direct result, these rebellious courtiers have taken control of the lands outside of Ioannina and the majority of the troops, and are currently besieging the city. Within the city, the Sultan and the other courtiers have talked the citizens and troops into 'becoming silver.'
Now you must attempt to take the rest of the province by force, as the rest of Janina will not be talked around.
Objective Three:
Begin the assault. Land, and begin the annexation.
As a bonus: Attempt to join up the loyal city members by reaching it quickly with this objective, otherwise all advantage will be lost.
(NB, you do not yet control the forces in Ioannina, so don't give them any orders.)
OOC: Thanks Grok.

Objective III
Respecting the subjugation of some Janinans, the Cannon locate one port only to land in, and prior to this warn all civilian populace to clear the area. Compensation shall be given to Neapolitan sympathisers who suffer any damage to property. Once the area has been pacified by cannon, my heavy infantry shall land and check the town, whilst being re-enforced by light infantry flanked by cavalry. Strategic street corners shall have permanent guards stationned on them to observe the rogue forces and ensure that civilian life can return to some normality.
Once the town is pacified, my contingent of cavalry shall speed to Ioannina to attempt to save the loyal Neapolitan Janinans. They shall travel there as fast as their horses can speed. Light infantry shall follow, but obviously they cannot reach Ioannina as fast - and speed is of the essence.

Verdict: Neapolitian Victory -------------- Troop losses: Neapolitian troops:Light Infantry: 4 675 Heavy Infantry: 1 391 Cavalry: 2 300 Cannon: 7 Newly gained Neapolitian Troops (merged with Naples next objective):Light Infantry: 3 327 Heavy Infantry: 1 051 Cavalry: 25 Cannon: 4 Janinan Troops:Light Infantry: 9 759 Heavy Infantry: 5 301 Cavalry: 1 901 Cannon: 8 Remaining Troops: Neapolitian troops:Light Infantry: 75 325 Heavy Infantry: 23 689 Cavalry: 2 700 Cannon: 93 Quality: Mediocre Newly gained Neapolitian troops:Light Infantry: 11 673 Heavy Infantry: 3 949 Cavalry: 2 475 Cannon: 6 Quality: Mediocre Janinan Troops:Light Infantry: 31 231 Heavy Infantry: 14 699 Cavalry: 3 099 Cannon: 32 Quality: Mediocre ------------ Result:The warning is a mixed blessing in the coastal town the troops choose: while very few civilian sympathisers are hurt, almost all the dissidents flee, allowing your troops to dig in, as half the town in deserted, but bringing about a direct assault on the town by a small, barely organised force. The leaders of this force are several local lords, with some land holdings. Your newly gained citizens lead you to these lands, thereby gaining you a significant size of land. The cavalry force sent to Ioannina arrive just in time to prevent a crushing assault of the capital, however this incurs large losses. The sight of troops flying the Neapolitian flag are heartened, and help out as well. The resulting coalition force the Janinan troops to flee westwards. Objective:Run down the fleeing forces into the west, taking those lands at the same time. Map of Neapolitian conquests and the next objective:

Objective IV
My force splits into three parts and spreads westwards. As always, cavalry advance first to attempt to scout and locate the main pockets of enemy armies. When pockets are found, cannon shall first fire upon them to be backed up by marching Heavy Infantry. Once resistance is thought to be removed, cavalry shall advance to the next suspected position of enemy to be followed by Heavy Infantry as Light Infantry complete any remaining skirmishes. The newly gained Neapolitan Troops are to be welcomed, and shall have an official oath to Caroline before they are used in the next objective. We issue an ultimatum to the remaining Janinan rebels:
"My dear, Janinans. Relent now and hasten the rejuvenation of your beautiful province, because together we can be strong. Your guerilla war is completely futile.
Yours, with cordial greetings, Caroline, R"

Verdict: Neapolitian Victory -------------- Troop losses: Neapolitian troops:Light Infantry: 7 520 Heavy Infantry: 3 250 Cavalry: 3 100 Cannon: 15 Janinan Troops:Light Infantry: 10 753 Heavy Infantry: 4 690 Cavalry: 1 561 Cannon: 22 Remaining Troops: Neapolitian troops (merged):Light Infantry: 79 478 Heavy Infantry: 24 388 Cavalry: 1 075 Cannon: 84 Quality: Mediocre Janinan Troops:Light Infantry: 20 478 Heavy Infantry: 10 009 Cavalry: 1 538 Cannon: 10 Quality: Mediocre ------------ Result:A large force of Janinan rebels appears in the region, far from the guerilla force expected, however the Janinan and Neapolitian troops are well knowledgeable about the area, and so the losses suffered are less than those on the other side. Cavalry scout losses are quite large, as ambushes are often set for them along the way, however aside from that, this is a sound victory. Objective:Push northwards into Janinan lands, where another large force is to be found, this should be one of the remaining few forces opposing you, as the resistors are trying to escape by sea, having heard of Neapolitian-Ottoman Alliance.

Objective V
From our control of the capital, heralds are sent to proclaim Caroline as Queen, and Lady of all Janina, and that any settlements harboring forces to her ill, or her army's ill, shall have no mercy bestowed upon them. This is a "practical demonstration" of Caroline's motherly protection to her loyal subjects.
Light Infantry are to advance northwards flanked with cavalry. Heavy infantry in part are to defend the capital, but shall be called upon if my commanders see the need. Scouts advance to negotiate with any hostile towns, and if fail cannon bombardment shall follow. This pattern shall repeat across Janina until the disloyal contingents are executed from our Queen's latest, beautiful province.
The Queen offers an amnesty, any Janinans wishing to surrender now shall not be adversely treated by her courts. They will be permitted to live without treasonous allegations should they surrender all weapons and knowledge potentially adverse to Janina, and Naples immediately.

Verdict: Total Neapolitian Victory
--------------
Troop losses:
Neapolitian troops: Light Infantry: 16 106 Heavy Infantry: 9 612 Cavalry: 575 Cannon: 24
Janinan Troops: Light Infantry: 15 761 Heavy Infantry: 7 240 Cavalry: 1 096 Cannon: 10
Remaining Troops:
Neapolitian troops (merged): Light Infantry: 63 372 Heavy Infantry: 18 776 Cavalry: 500 Cannon: 60 Quality: Mediocre
Janinan Troops (these will Join with Neapolitian troops): Light Infantry: 4 717 Heavy Infantry: 2 769 Cavalry: 442 Cannon: 0 Quality: Mediocre ------------
Result:
The Janinan forces near the north of the Province waver with the proclamation, however some join a force intent on breaking the Neapolitians once and for all.
In order to do this, a pitched battle ensues between the two forces, incurring heavy losses on both sides. At the end thereof, the Janinan General lies dead at the hands of Neapolitian troops, and the resistors scattered, most travelling to Ioannina in search of mercy and further emploi.
A choice, however presents the Neapolitians: Will the troops be imprisoned or released?
If imprisoned, the country may feel less patriotic towards a cruel queen, however dissidents may emerge in the province if they are set free without any other measures. Which will the queen risk?

Decision
They shall be released. We hope they will leave Janina, however, we shall have police reformations pending that shall ensure order is kept. Even so, there will be a military presence in Janina for a short time after the completed acquisition.
Therefore, they shall be released now - but any repeat offenders shall pay the ultimate price.

Very well, then the province of Janina has been taken! Loyalty of the province shall be set to 7 (not 4, as I would have done had you just said yes) and the military of Naples can move on to pastures new as and when their queen sees fit. I've gotta do the maps now Previous troops: 306 500 60 583 29 640 501 without warring troops: 226 500 35 583 24 640 401 New troop numbers: 294 589 67 128 25 582 461 new troop numbers and income done (note, my mental maths may not be perfect) Janina proper's profile modified can someone archive the country thread to the right place?
