The French Republic captured the strategic Mont Blanc in the year 1792, from which we shall launch our atack of Piedmont.
If fortifications are present, Cannon are fired. The people are told to surrender and become free citizens. Napoleon goes with them in this campaign, and assures that the men do nothign wrong, and commands their loyalty, this has a hsitory of working marvelously well.
OOC: Usually, when Napoleon is with the army, they fight twice as well and twice as hard, and are extremely loyal, they do no misdeeds.

The town is quite well fortified, but there is very little in the way of troops. The fortifications do not last long, however, under the barrage of cannonfire. The walls are broken, and the town guards are mustered to defend the breakthrough, but are overwhelmed by a vast amount of infantry before they can inflict any serious casualties. Some of the people try to defend their homes, but are easily neutralised by the invading force. There is a last ditch attempt to protect the town hall by the remaining guard, but another hail of gunfire weakens the defences and soldiers swarm the soldiers. Those troops who do not surrender are shot. Two French Cannon are lost, but they take 10 from the defenders. The town is taken by the French, and the Tricolore is raised.
-Objective complete-
Forces:
France- Light Infantry- 197,600 Heavy Infantry- 149,200 Cavalry (Light and Ranged)- 148,600 Cannon- 208
Sardinia- Light Infantry- 105,300 Heavy Infantry- 52,200 Cavalry- 33,642 Cannon- 35
Objective two: Head northwest, and take the town of Fossano. Attempt a more peaceful approach than at Cuneo, or the townspeople may become rowdy and rebellious.

A negotiator is sent to negotiate a surrender with the people, and the possibility of the people of Fossano joining the French. They say that they shall be much happier under the French regime, and united with Liguria under French rule.
If they refuse, any fortifcatiosn are shot down by Cannon. If not, the men just march through the streets and claim the town. Civilians are to be treated justly.

The Papacy wishes to offer the Isle of Sardinia, and its mainland province of Piedmont, the protection of God by joining with the Papacy and furthering the cause to bring a united Italy.

We state that if Piedmont joins with the Papacy, we will consider it an act of war by the Papacy. Also, we state we have no intentions to conqueor Sardinia itself.

Fossano is a relatively small town compared to Cuneo, but its defences are strong and there is quite a strong military presence, with it being in the vicinity of Torino. The negotiations do not go well, and the townspeople take up arms in preparation for the attack, but none are ready for the blasts of French guns. The walls break up with gunfire, and the panicking civilians try to flee the town, but are cut off by fallen masonry. The town's defences fall, and the infantry move in, shooting down the Italians as they make their way over the detritus of what remains of the town walls. Heavy infantry forces push back the defending soldiers into the town centre, and the remnants of the Italian forces are swiftly dealt with. There are quite a few casualties to the French infantry, but the town is captured successfully.

The French army moves itself to set camp up outside of the city of Torino, awaiting to lay seige. A negotiator is sent to Torino to give them the option of surrender.
OOC: With the Objective you've given me, there's nothing else I can really do...

OOC: Sorry, I wasn't very clear on what I meant. If you would state your tactics to take the town and where your men are around the town, depending on how good your tactics are, it could make a big difference to the next stage. Please state your tactics.

We completely sorround the town, setting up camps. Cannon are set up facing each end of the town, backed up by regiments of infantry. Cavalry are in a bulk opposite the main gate, and the Heavy Infantry are scattered around the circle.
If they say no to our surrender, we shall begin our bombardment straight away.

Whilst negotiations are being made, there is news at the French camp. Scouts have seen reinforcements from the nearby towns of Chieri and Collegno. It appears that the negotiations were a ruse to draw time whilst the alarm was raised. The numbers of troops are vast, and almost equal that of the French force.
Objective four: Take Torino before the reinforcements arrive.

The Cannon fire and the walls are brought down. The defences are crumbled and the soldiers charge in, going straight for the governmental building. Infantry swarm the streets and kill any opposition, and a scout rides down every street first to check and tell civilians to go indoors.

There is mass confusion in the town as buildings collapse around the Italian soldiers and Frenchmen charge through the streets. The defending soldiers are quick to react, though, and bring out Cannon to hold off French assaults. Townspeople run indoors as the invaders go by, and therefore there are few civilian casualties. The French attack is stalled as barricades are built up near to the town center and more guns are brought out.
Forces:
France- Light Infantry- 172,250 Heavy Infantry- 141,800 Cavalry (Light and Ranged)- 146,200 Cannon- 206
Sardinia- Light Infantry- 58,650 Heavy Infantry- 34,600 Cavalry- 33,642 Cannon- 28
Objective four (cont.): Find a way to break through the defenses quickly. *The reinforcements are 3 miles away*

The men are told to fire over the barricades at the men, to dispatch those immediately defending them, then swarm over them and dismantle them after the initial area is taken, and push onto the main government building. Heavy Infantry, the French Grenadiers, are told to through their (primitave) grenades over the top of the barricades, and at if necesarry.
The Cannon are brought inside the walls.

The barricades are blown to pieces by the grenadiers, and any soldiers who survive the explosions are shot before they can retaliate. The French forces push the Italians into a bunch next to the Town Hall, where they build up a last resort defense and wait for the next move.
Forces:
France- Light Infantry- 169,350 Heavy Infantry- 138,400 Cavalry (Light and Ranged)- 145,900 Cannon- 203
Sardinia- Light Infantry- 51,450 Heavy Infantry- 28,200 Cavalry- 33,642 Cannon- 14
Objective four (cont.): Defeat the remnants of the defending army. *The reinforcements are 2 miles away*

The men are told to slaughter any remaining Sardinian soldiers, and secure the town. When the enemy reinforcements arrive, they are to be captured, and sold back to the enemy at a price of 1 Livre per man.

Defences are set up aroudn the town, Cannon poised to fire outwards. The old Sardinian troops are stripped of their weaponry and put in prisons for the duration of the battle. The tricolour is to be raised, to make it clear to the Sardinians that Torino is now French.
Furthermore, the Sardinians are told to either surrender and be accumulated into the French army, surrender and be shipped home without their weapons, or die.

The reinforcements arrive at Torino, and as they approach the town, the soldiers spot the tricolour flying in the middle of the town and realise they're too late. They fire at the town from afar with their Cannon and then ty to charge the town, but the Italians do not get far before they are hailed with cannonballs and rifleshots. Many of the troops fall, and the survivors retreat to the cover of the Cannon. The French force keeps a steady rate of fire at them, and the cavalry forces are quickly destroyed. Many of the Italian Cannon are destroyed. The troops realise they cannot win, and drop their weapons. They march to the twon with their hands up, and are apprehended by the French soldiers. They wish to be sent back to their homes, and will be after a period of detention. They are placed in holding, and the French take all of their equipment. The Italian soldiers' weapons and valuables collected from the town by French troops are worth a total of 20,000 Livre.
